TEACHING PHILOSOPHY

Teaching Philosophy

Throughout my life, learning has been an ever-evolving process of curiosity and discovery.  However, moments of accelerated learning have always occurred in a group atmosphere.

I believe this is true for almost any specialty or focus.  We are communal, and social beings and we learn more from one another than we do on our own.  The fundamental dynamics of my classroom will reflect this.  The focus would not be on spouting a constant stream of information towards the students, but rather to facilitate a mixing of our ideas.

With the help of the students, I will guide and direct the class towards the end goal of further developing their film and storytelling skills.

My goal is to increase the students’ capacities and confidence in every stage of digital image and filmmaking:

  • Planning narrative concepts
  • Shot lists
  • Becoming comfortable with equipment
  • Incorporating unexpected conditions during filming
  • Shooting b-roll
  • Designing and capturing audio
  • Honing their message during editing
  • Capitalizing on press and film festivals

Learning not only from their own experiences, but through group critique and feedback sessions, the classroom settings reflect this:
